Common questions
Why does signing in ask for Google Drive?
So PeaceScribe can keep a copy of your writing in your own Drive. It asks only to create and update its own files, in a folder you choose — not to see anything else there.
How do I bring in writing from somewhere else?
In the Library, under Bring writing in. Choose from Drive opens Google’s chooser at your Postbox folder — tick one file or many. Upload from computer takes files from your own machine, and you can also drop them straight onto that box. Markdown (.md) and plain-text (.txt) files come in exactly as written; Word files (.docx) are converted, keeping headings, bold, italics and lists. Each file becomes one piece, in the form chosen beside the buttons — and you can change any piece’s form later.
Will importing the same file twice make a copy?
No. PeaceScribe recognises writing it has already imported and points you to it instead. A file that has been changed since counts as new writing and comes in as a new piece. The original file is never altered — once imported, carry on in PeaceScribe.
Where are the copies of my writing?
In the Drive folder you chose, as plain text files ending in .md, each named after its piece. The Library shows which folder, and how many pieces are waiting to be copied.
How soon does Drive catch up?
About half a minute after you stop typing, and again when you close a piece. In the Library, Copy to Drive now does it straight away. If Drive is ever behind, your writing is still safe in PeaceScribe and the copy catches up by itself.
I edited the copy in Drive — why did my change disappear?
PeaceScribe is where your writing lives; Drive holds the copy. The next time a piece changes in PeaceScribe, its Drive copy is replaced, so edits or renames made in Drive are lost. Moving a copy into another folder in Drive is safe, though — it will keep updating wherever you put it.
How do I delete a piece — and get it back if I change my mind?
Use Delete at the top of the piece, or the bin icon beside it in the Library, and confirm. Its copy in your Google Drive goes to Drive’s Bin, where it stays for 30 days: open Google Drive, choose Bin, and restore it. To bring it back into PeaceScribe, import the restored file.
PeaceScribe says it has lost its connection to Drive
Sign out and sign in again, and approve the Drive permission when Google asks. Nothing is lost: anything written in the meantime is copied across once the connection is back.
How do I disconnect PeaceScribe from my Google account?
In your Google Account, under Third-party apps & services, choose PeaceScribe and remove its access. The copies already in your Drive stay there.
How do I have my information deleted?
Write to apreston@mbscoaching.com. The privacy policy explains what is held and for how long.
Can I use PeaceScribe too?
Not at the moment — it is a private application, and it is not open for sign-ups. Thank you for your interest all the same.
