Privacy policy

Last updated 21 September 2026

PeaceScribe is a private writing application. It holds one writer’s work, and it is built to know as little as it can while doing that well.

Who runs PeaceScribe

PeaceScribe is operated by Anne Preston, MindBodySpiritCoaching, in British Columbia, Canada. In this policy, “I” means Anne Preston. You can reach me at apreston@mbscoaching.com.

PeaceScribe is not open for sign-ups. Only one Google account is permitted to sign in. A sign-in attempt from any other account is refused before an account is created, and nothing about it is kept.

The short version

What PeaceScribe collects, and why

From your Google account, when you sign in

Your name, email address, profile picture link and Google account identifier, as Google provides them. These are used only to sign you in and to confirm yours is the permitted account.

Google Drive access

PeaceScribe asks for one Drive permission, known as drive.file. It allows the app to create files and to update the files it created — and to open a file or folder only when you choose it yourself, in Google’s own chooser. It gives no access to any other file or folder in your Drive.

With that permission, PeaceScribe:

Your writing

The titles and text of what you write, the form you give each piece, word counts, and occasional snapshots taken while you write — about every ten minutes — as protection against a mistaken edit.

For writing you import, also the name of the file it came from, whether it came from Drive or your computer, and a fingerprint of its text, so the same file is never imported twice. A file uploaded from your computer is read to copy its text in; the file itself is not kept.

What your browser keeps

Cookies that keep you signed in, which PeaceScribe cannot work without. Your chosen Library order and light or dark theme, saved in your own browser and never sent anywhere.

What the hosting service records

Like any website, the service that hosts PeaceScribe records basic information about each request — such as the time, the page asked for, and the requesting internet address — to keep the site running and secure.

What PeaceScribe does not do

Google user data

PeaceScribe’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In plain terms, information from your Google account and Drive is:

Where it is kept, and who helps

PeaceScribe relies on three services to run:

Each processes information only to provide its part of PeaceScribe. When you open the Drive folder chooser, it is loaded from Google and Google’s own privacy policy applies to it.

How long it is kept

Your writing and its snapshots are kept for as long as you keep them in PeaceScribe. Your account details are kept while the account exists.

When you delete a piece, it and its snapshots are removed from PeaceScribe after you confirm, and its copy in your Google Drive is moved to Drive’s Bin. Google keeps binned files for 30 days, and you can restore one from there; after that, Google removes it. Otherwise PeaceScribe never removes anything from your Drive — the copies there are yours.

Your choices

Keeping it safe

Everything travels over encrypted connections. The database allows each account to reach only its own writing, and the Google permission is sealed away from the browser entirely. No system is perfectly secure, but PeaceScribe is built to hold as little as possible, and to guard what it holds.

Children

PeaceScribe is not intended for, or directed at, anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If PeaceScribe starts handling information differently — for example by sending reminder emails, or by offering questions written with the help of AI — this policy will be updated before that change happens, and the date at the top will change with it.
